Events At The Blackrock Castle Observatory This Week

Blackrock Castle Observatory have a few events on this week, kicking off with the next First Quarter Moon Observing Event, which runs from 6.00pm to 8.30pm. A week after the new moon, when the Moon has completed about a quarter of its turn around the Earth, we can see half of the illuminated part; that is, a quarter of the Moon. Spend an evening viewing the night sky through high tech telescopes with help and guidance from staff members in the courtyard of Blackrock Castle Observatory. Blackrock Castle Observatory is a 16th century castle located about 2km from the heart of Cork city on the banks of the river Lee. Later in the week the Observatory is hosting an exhibition of sketches by prominent astronomer, Sir Patrick Moore. The exhibition is open from 6.00 – 9.00pm.
