Tune Into The Gerry Ryan Show This Morning To Hear About Ireland’s Involvement In NASA’s Kepler Mission

Gerry Ryan will interview Maura Rabbette, an Irish astrophysicist, who is working on NASA’s Kepler mission live on air at 11.30 this morning on RTE 2FM. This mission is a NASA Discovery Program for detecting potentially life-supporting planets around other stars. All of the extrasolar planets detected so far by other projects are giant planets, mostly the size of Jupiter and bigger. Kepler is specifically designed to determine how many of the billions of stars in our region of the Milky Way galaxy have Earth-size and smaller planets in or near the habitable zone. The research results from this mission will allow NASA to place our solar system within the continuum of planetary systems in the Galaxy and, even more exciting, Kepler may help answer the most universal of questions, “Are there others like us in the universe?”.
