NUI Galway Bucks The Trend For Science, Engineering & ICT CAO Applications

It looks like the shift from law and engineering courses continues to gather pace, with more applicants opting for Science, Engineering and ICT courses in light of the current economic environment. NUI Galway have announced that they have received an increase of 39% for applications for Engineering courses, compared to a drop of 3.9% nationally. In addition, there’s been an increase in demand for science, ICT and maths courses at the university.

It’s positive news and it’s bolstered by the fact that NUI Galway have been quick to tailor their courses in response to some of the societal changes, with new environmental focused courses for engineering students such as Energy Systems Engineering. It will be interesting to watch what levels of demand other universities experience and ultimately how that plays out in the points required for these courses across the board next month when Leaving Cert results are announced.
