Science Raps Challenge Winners Announced

The winners of the Science Raps Challenge were announced on Saturday at the Opening of Discovery 2009 in City Hall Cork. The prizes were given out by Jonathan Chase who is famous on YouTube for a series of rap videos about science he recorded. Jon challenged students to compose their rap for the Science Raps Challenge which was a new competition organised by the Alimentary Pharmabiotic Centre (APC) for Science Week Ireland 2009.
The raps had to follow the Science Week 2009 theme “Celebrating Creativity and Innovation”.
Two winners were chosen in the over 17 year’s category: David Jackson a first year UCC biochemistry student, with his rap video entitled “Genesis Lab Rat Rap Irish Hip Hop” and “Spectrometry Rap” from Sean Hassett, Robin Flynn and Conor Conway, of Presentation College Headford Co. Galway.
In the Under 17 category, first prize was awarded to Karimah Gambo from St Joseph’s College, Lucan for her “Science Raps Challenge” rap. The runner up in this category was Chloe Murphy, a second year student in St Vincent’s Secondary School, Cork for her rap entitled “Electronics”.
